October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month | My declaration to be tested

Two weeks ago I received a simple post card reminder in the mail that said, “Monique have you schedule your mammogram.” Then right beneath it gave startling statistics that 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer.  Could they have been any more direct!

As I starred at that post card last night I thought about my very real fears and why I was struggling to just make the call. Honestly, I can’t tell you why I am fearful, I just know that I am. The reality is that I have close friends and associates that have had breast cancer, died from breast cancer and a few who are still surviving. These courageous women fought hard to live their life, so why am I scared?

Well, I made the call and I have my appointment this month. And what better time then during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I want to encourage each and every woman to be tested this month!

Let’s do this together and stand together for all those beautiful people fighting hard each day!
